Hi guys.. :)

I hate to create a new thread about this, because I'm sure it's been discussed... but I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere. I'm new to the world of trucks (home mechanic for years on my MX-3... holy world of difference) and this is my first posting here. Hope I can be of help to others eventually. :)

I need to replace my IAC valve on my '97 SOHC v6. My friend's got the truck at the moment so I can't read the actual part number, or even see the thing.

Does this look like it would be compatible?

I really don't want to spend much on it as this is just our renovation truck.. so we're trying to keep costs low.

None of the ones listed on ebay at the moment seem to have exact application info.. frustratingly.

Thanks!

thats the idle air bypass valve right? i'm pretty sure you can get one of those from napa for about $50. thats what i would do just to be sure i'm getting the right part..

Heh, I figured that as well, but when I called Napa (in Canada) they quoted me on two different parts .. one for the SOHC and one for the OHV at $211 and $263 respectively. Whaaaaaaat!? Highway robbery.

I have a 97 with the SOHC and yes the photo is the same part but I agree that I would call around first at the local auto part stores before I would order over the internet.

I did but there's one major difference between canada and the US ... we get raped up here for parts. :( It's ridiculous. Basically part stores here charge 2-3x what you can find on ebay (since they usually ship from the US), and dealers charge 2-3x that.

The dealer wanted $350 for a set of fuel hoses with fittings for my MX-3. I went with generic 5/16" high pressure fuel injection hose and a universal adapter for $20. Highway robbery I tell you.

I couldn't find the part number Napa gave me on ebay anywhere. :/

But thanks for the input though... I'm glad the pic looks the same. I'll order it and give it a shot. I've got 6 tries at this for the price of the part at napacanada. :(

You notice they won't even list the brand of the valve??? I wouldn't walk away from that, I would RUN! If that was a quality brand name valve, it would be plastered all over that add.

Have you tried Rock Auto?

Oh I'm sure it's a cheap chinese knockoff... but who cares, if it works. :p

I ordered it last night.. I'll see how it goes. If it breaks, I'm only out $40. But these solenoids aren't exactly complicated so I'm sure it'll be fine for the rest of the lifetime of the truck (4-5 years).

I wasn't aware they had an AWD V6 in 1997....I thought they didn't make a AWD V6 until the 3rd Gen in 2002.

Hmm.. Perhaps I used the term AWD a little too quickly. :)

It's got a selector that chooses between auto, 4WD Hi and 4WD Lo. Is that considered AWD, or 4WD?

It's 4x4, nightfire, don't worry though, everyone was a new person here at one time or another -- welcome to the forum
