which transmission do i have?

I know this is a dumb question, but i just want to make sure before i order parts. I have a 1999 explorer, auto transmission, and 4x4. I am pretty sure i have the 5r55e, but i just want to make sure. i am going to be replacing my vb gasket within the next week or so, and i want to make sure i get the right parts. is there an easy way to find out, or do i just go by year?

If you have the SOHC then i KNOW that you do bud cause i just relaced my tranny filter... wasn't soo fun had to pull front drive shaft n unbolt the tranny from the support on the frame n jack it up to get the pan out.. hope this helps you my friend

How can i tell if i have the sohc? i am not very savvy on engine types.

Anyway, i have replaced the filter before, and the only problem i had was getting the heat shield out of the way to drop the pan. The drive shaft was kind of cramped, but i was able to easily get the pan off. Sorry for the dumb question, but i haven't been under the hood enough to know what kind of engine i have. I can follow directions easily and have enough knowledge to get the basics done and some more advanced stuff with the help with my father.
