2000 Explorer XLT
This is my first post here, I'm probably going to catch hell for asking this, as I'm sure there is a dedicated thread, but... I couldn't find it.

'00 Exploder XLT, 4.0 SOHC... did they all come with the 5 speed auto?

Thank you very much.

Thanks a bunch. I do appreciate it.

Thanks again. Most forums that one encounters are met with little to no actual "help" and more degredation of the persons lack of knowledge. I'm impressed.

Just wait till you REALLY need help. There are people here who can tell you EVERYTHING abput EVERYTHING on your truck......

That's encouraging. I come from Mustang-land.. however going back to school a little over a year go led me to sell my babies (and basically anything that i don't necessarily need to exist) in order to scrounge up some extra tuition money. I really know nothing about Explorers, other than the universal charachteristics that apply to all of the automotive spectrum.

The trick is knowing each individual vehicles "quirks". I definately do not know the Explorers quirks. Thanks again.

Just when you have time familurize yourself with your truck and motor and driveline. get under it. the best way to learn, is to actualy do it instead of wondering or paying someone else. now obviously some jobs you cant do, but youll at least know how its done so your wont get screwed over when you take it in for said repairs.

Well, I have for the most part. I've owned a few Bronco II's, a 79 Bronco, a 78 F-150, and a fleet of mustangs. This Explorer came up at a good deal, so I snagged up on it. I've already put upper & lower ball joints in her, and brakes / rotors all the way around. I just don't know what the particular nitches of the Explorers are... ie.. cavaliers and neons blow head gaskets, cherokees and durangos chew up rear ends, etc...

One thing that I do like about the 2nd generation Explorers thus far would be the similarities that it has with the older Ford trucks in terms of accessability while performing work.. Plus it still has the old faithful 8.8 solid axle.

Yeah. When I first used the AC this summer, my blend door was sticking. Fortunately it wasn't the door itself, but the vaccum line harness behind the glove box. All it required was a little push back together, and I haven't had any problems since, I guess I got lucky. This is also the 1st vehicle that I've owned with an aftermarket sound system. I've installed a ****load of them for friends, but, I've never really had the ambition to do so before this. I was always minimizing on weight, etc...

The typical Mustang punk attitude :P

I also had the timing tensioners changed out under the extended warranty that I purchased. Whew.

Well then your pretty much in the clear...

I am anxious for the snow to fall. I just bought the tires. I've never had anything with independent front suspension and 4 wheel drive before. I hear it's a whole different feel than a straight axle. Does it snow much in your realm?
