Okay, so everyone and their mom knows that old toyota pickups and all jeeps are proven good trail/mud/off-road rigs. I always see them in magazines, and on the road with modifications. So why aren't there explorers in magazines? Are explorers bad SUV's to modify? Do they do poorly off-road? I would assume that the top-heavy rumor would play into it, but I havn't found mine to be any more top heavy than my friends ranger. I love my explorer, but NO one else around the mid-illinois saint louis area has a modded explorer except for "dubs". Why do you think that people rarely modify explorers?

because they are more thought of as a fimaly SUV. not a hard core off-roader, i know at heart they can be, and with a few simple mods they can be great hunting and fishing rigs, that is what mine is and it has never let me down. and when you are in the back woods of colorado that is a good thing  . Another thing is that there are only a couple big lift kits out there for x's, most of the time x's are lifted with TT and shackles and AAL, also since not everyone mods their x's not that many off road aftermarket parts are available. Plus why do we want everyone to mod their x? ;) like you said everyone that has a jeep or toyota mods it not many people mod their x's so when you see an x with a bunch of mods it is something special :D .

Soccer mom vehicle. Its very hard to break a set way of thinking.
