I changed my rear rotors and brakes on my 2002 explorer a few days ago. When I make a left turn there is a rubbing sound coming from the rear passenger wheel. it seems to be getting a little better as I have put a few miles on. I can usually only hear the noise when I am going over 20mph and making a sharper left turn. I am thinking dust shield could be rubbing but wanted to see if anyone has had similar experience.

Did you pound on the dust shield at all.

Typically, if it's dust shield related, it'd be constant.

I did not pound on the dust shield, prior to replacing the rotors there was also a clicking noise in same wheel whenever I would let clutch out in 1st 2nd and reverse and whenever I would quickly change speeds. everyone said it was probably a stone or something stuck in the dust shield or somewhere. I did not find any stones or pieces of metal. it still makes that noise along with a rubbing noise when I make left turns. The pads seem to have worn in good and there is nothing abnormal there or any abnormal noise when I brake. is it possible parts of the ebrake could rub?

Pretty sure this is the same issue I had last month when changed my rear rotors.

It was a metalic scraping coming from the right rear side when when I turned left. I took them apart twice and couldn't find anything.

Over the span of a week it got less noticeable and finally went away.

I planned on driving it for awhile and pulling it apart to look for scrape marks. However, since it went away I didn't bother. I'm pretty sure it was something in the eBrake drum.

sounds just like what I have going on, if it doesn't go away in a few days I will try pulling the wheel and seeing what I can find.

Its the dust shield, bend it back a bit or wait until it just wears out lol. Clicking when applying brakes would be needing some caliper slides that may have fell off when you were doing the brakes. Just did all this myself as well, had the same problems as you. The dust shield is stupid on these cars, in order to properly replace you need to take apart the hub..I just cut the new dust shield in half and installed, works fine with new E brake as well. had to take a few test drives to bend it just in the right shape! no noise now haha
