will a 4x4 trans work in a 4x2 a4ld ???

I have a 91 explorer 4x2 and the automatic trans went out. I was wondering if a 4x4 trans will bolt in a 4x2? If I remove the transfer case will it bolt up or do I need to make other alterations?

The extension housing, and the rear output shaft are different. You will have to take the whole thing apart to swap the rear shaft. The extension housing swap is the easy part.
