I've got a 97 Explorer XLT 5.0 v-8 with 51,000 miles on it. I hate the transmission in this thing. It seems like it's always shifting gears. It drops into over drive at 35mph which brings the rpm's down to a little over 1000. Then it has no power and it will down shift anytime you go up any type of hill. Somtimes it won't down shift even if the rpms get right at 1000, then you have to give it a bunch of gas and it will down shift and take off. It works great when I'm on the highway, or anyspeed over 50mph. Will an aftermarket chip keep the tranny from going into overdrive at such low speeds? Is there anything I can adjust that will keep it out of overdrive untill around 50mph? I'm tired of turning the o/d button on and off when I drive around town. Thanks for the help.

Both the Superchip and Hypertech change the shift points of the auto tranny. The shifts are overall at higher RPMs and a bit firmer. However, your tranny seems super sluggish, you might want to have it looked at before you get the chip.
