Will not stay running at idle

my 98 explorer 4.0
starting hard and i have to fether the peddal to keep it running. I think it is ether the cat or bad injectors how can i tell or am I off bace.

Ummm, not sure why you quoted you own post there, but I would start by checking out the IAC valve.

where is the IAC valve located
 






Near/on throttle body... it looks like this:

Unplugg the MAF and see if it will idle.

I was pretty clear about it. Unplug the MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) and see if your Explorer will idle with it unplugged. You could have a bad MAF, if it idles while unplugged then that is your problem. If the problem is still there then it might be the IAC as someone already stated above.
