Hi guys

I purchased an 02 Eddie Bauer and the transmission is done :(
rebuilding it would cost me 2000$

Do you think I would be better off putting a 2003-2009 transmission in it?
would it fit?

Thank you for your help

2000 seems to be the average for a rebuilt transmission. If you go used you might have to rebuild that one too. I go for a rebuild IF its a reputable shop, with a good warranty. Also i'd ask if they are going to use a 'Master Rebuild Kit' and will they redo the servo bores, which is kinda of required, also do they have plans on replacing the Valve body (optional)? If they do all of the above minus the VB as they did with mine, it will be better than new. I paid $1600 for mine to be rebuilt 10k ago.
another idea is look for something called 'crate' transmission which is already rebuilt, it would be close to DIY, if you have the right tools.

Thank you for you quick response
Do you think i can swap the engine + transmission of a 2006-2010 in it instead?

i don't think so. . .in '06 they went to a 6speed and they made some minor tweeks. The electronics would be different, and the mounts might have changed also, is my guess. Too much to change to get a swap to work imo.

Also a PCM reprogramming will be required for this swap. Of which, I am not sure, the current PCM in your Ex will not accomidate the new 6 speed Tranmisions... The big picture a crate trans would be a much better option.
