I have a 2005 Ford Explorer, and both the driver and passenger windows are stuck open and will not go up and the rear windows will not go down. I attempted to replaced the 30 amp fuse in engine compartment fuse box, and still no working windows. I metered the fuses underneath the dash and found that there are two fuses that are no getting power, the 17 slot(15 amp) and the 28 slot(5 amp). I'm not sure where to continue from this point..... I'm thinking there is a wire loose or disconnected somewhere in the panel, but this may be to much of a fix for me.

Anybody have similar problems or issues to this?

Thanks!

The '05 models are known for "minor electrical issues" per Consumer's Reports, and mine has the same problem. I replaced some fuses and even the master switch, but no luck.

There is a thread or two somewhere on here about the possibility of the ground wire (thick black or black/blue) severing itself somewhere behind the door panel and/or rubber hose boot between the door and the firewall. Apparently all the constant opening and closing can cause it to occur.

I'm not good with reading schematics and/or troubleshooting with an ohmeter, but it sounds like you might be. Just for kicks I asked the dealership for a quote and they said they saw a "similar" situation, where all four windows went at once and it was $1200 to replace the regulators etc. This sounded like a crock to me so I never went back.

Good luck!

I appreciate the help. I went back through a lot of the previous posts that others had with this issue and pretty much narrowed it down. I ended up replacing the master window switch, and found a severed black/blue ground wire right where everyone else was, and that was the culprit.

I was actually surprised after some research that there was never a bulletin issued in reference to faulty wiring within the door. But who knows.

Where was the ground wire loose at, I have this on my ex wifes(soon to be mine) 03 Explorer....I know it isnt the switch panel, if you open the door the windows work....close the door none of them work....do you have a wiring diagram of the wires?..

thanks,

thanks,

The wires break inside the rubber grommet that you can see when you open the door.

A lot of issues can be traced back to broken/damaged wire(s) in the boot between the body and the door. I found a broken wire and repaired it and all is back to normal!

Here is a great thread for removing the door panel , thanks to borland for the awesome write-up: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249253
