W/S motor stopped the other night on my way home, tested the fuse and the power up to the connector and everything is good; so went out and bought a reman'd wiper motor at Advanced Auto Parts.

Read the FAQ's on these joys of Ford Engineering, and managed to follow all the steps. Couldn't get the stupid wiper arms into the 'straight up' position because the motor was seized; so I swapped the motor with the wipers in the 'down' position.

Got everything back together, turned ignition to 'on', turned on the wipers and they moved. Success. Turned off the wipers and they stopped. ONLY the stop at the far left stroke, so any time I turn off the wipers they end up straight up and down.

As a note, I did not disconnect the negative battery cable (lazy) so I don't if that would have an effect on this problem or not. Has anyone else had this problem? Would really appreciate any suggestions; so far everything writte to date on this has been extraordinary. Thanks in advance!

now that you know where it stops, take off the wiper arems and readjust them

Next step...

Tried that... pulled both wiper arms off the shafts, turned wipers off to get the set position, and reinstalled wiper arms in the 'down' position. Turned on the wipers again, this time they tried to go through the cowl panel (some nice scratches to remind me); it was as if the wipers knew they were supposed to be in the 'up' position and were trying to sweep down.

I'm reluctant to admit it, but I think the only thing to do at this point is to reach back in; disconnect the wiper arms, rotate the output shaft 180 degrees, reinstall, and go from there. It's just such a pain in the exhaust pipe to reach in and get that clip out; I've still got the marks from doing it yesterday.

Problem solved

After some discussion and thought pulled the windshield motor back out (white lithium grease on the pivot arm prior to installation made it a lot easier second time around) and reinstalled pivot arm 180 degrees - problem solved.
