ok, i've searched high and low for an answer on the site, but no one has asked this question before.

my turn-style knob to operate the wipers on and off is kinda broken. i mean kinda because it feels like the outer part of the switch is slipping over the inner part. i have to keep rotating the stupid thing back and forth for it to turn on or even turn them off. sometimes when they are on, its in the wrong position (for example: the normal wipe is a delay wipe, and OFF will have the delay wipe).

im going on a long trip upsate next weekend and its going to rain rain rain!! please help me fix this before i go!

thanks guys!

Not 100% sure, but if you mean the Multi-Function switch ( wipers/turn signal/headlight dimmer ) on the steering column, it's not serviceable. Unless someone has a way to jerry-rig the rolling mechanism, it requires replacement of the whole Multi-Function switch...

I'd suggest replacing it anyhow; if it is damaged internally, the turn signals might not work some day for some god only knows reason. And thats bad ...

damn... i saw a couple on ebay.. but if they are all as old as mine, they are just as prone to fail. anyone know where i can get a fairly UNUSED one?

thanks

AutoZone should have a new one for about 50 bucks

autozone would carry a part like this??

Sure, they carry a lot more than you think, as does Napa. It's a mechanical part, so it's going to break. Need to buy it from somewhere. ;) I have never replaced one myself, but supposedly it takes about 10-15 minutes max.

Btw, I finally figured out what you mean! The wiper switch does feel weak to me as well. I will turn the outside dial to the right position and I can feel the inside dial struggling to move with it. Yes, this is the multi-function switch, and yes it is cheap and easy to fix. No worries. :D

Yes, remove the upper and lower column covers and then 2 screws .. Easy

1995 and earlier require the steering wheel and everything under the sun to be removed ...

great... i have a 94!!! *pulls out wrench*

good lord. i checked it out on Autozone.com. the part number is SW1090, and it goes for 99.99!!

anyone know of alternate part numbers perhaps. maybe i could get one off of ebay from a ranger or a cougar .

Wow! It was only fifty for one for my 96. Try fordpartsnetwork.com.

ford parts network has it... $93.83!!!!

this is a little tooo costly to get the wipers to work. id rather wire switch just to turn them on and off!

is there anyone tearing down an explorer perhaps that could part with one????
