OK Folks, I'm going to try an experiment here and see how well it take off. If it's popular, then I will expand this to other forums for the different years. What this thread (in my mind) will become is if a member needs something from a Ford factory service manual such as instructions (with pictures) on how to remove something, diagrams for wiring, etc etc that some of us have access to (Alldata, Service DVD's and so forth). If I am the only one who can respond to these requests, I'd be happy to do so as its just another way for me to give back to this forum like it has given to me over the years. If others have access to this kind of information, feel free to post answers as well. Again, I don't know if this will prove popular or not, but we shall see :)

As far as asking for the above, I guess lets try and use a standard format...like this for example:

If you are need a wiring diagram and connector view for a stereo on an 07 with premium sound, put something like this in the subject line of the post:

"2007 Eddie Bauer/4.0 SOHC/Automatic/Premium Sound"

Then in the message body of the post, describe what you are needing from the factory manuals.

Soooo...What do you all think?

It's a good idea. I have a couple of Ford Service DVD's for Explorers that I have owned. Unfortunately I don't have the time to respond to posts as often as I'd like to. IMO a Service DVD is a good investment for anyone that owns an Explorer, and they can usually be had for about $15 on Ebay. That way I have all the information available at my fingertips when I need it.

I think it is a good idea. :biggthump

One thing worth considering is the "copyright issue". I have the Ford Service DVD for 2000-2003. I have been sending the info via PM so as not to get the forum or Rick in trouble.

Good Point. I'll let rick chime in here cause I have seen TSB info published on here in the past without issues, but I want to for sure be on the up and up. Perhaps if a copyright message is posted after every post?

I think we need to make this happen.

I will see if I can find the thread about the copyright issues. We can get some guidelines from that. Of course, Rick will be the official governing body.

I PM'ed Rick with a link to this thread to double check and make sure

I found the thread: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=311045

Roadrunner777 asked this question, but never got an answer. Maybe we can get Rick to address this.

What are your thoughts on schematics and images from Ford factory manuals? Thanks...

I am actually thinking a scan off a hard copy. Example: Guy can't figure out gas gauge. Schematic from service manual shows everything he needs on one page/image, so I scan the page and throw it on my server (I have not learned how to put images on this server yet). Then, I link to that image in the thread.

However, I completely understand if we want to stay far right of any gray zone, and I can certainly just scan and email to the person that needs it. It would not benefit as many people, but it would be unquestionable.

There's a thread in the 1st gen ST forum for those schematics, etc so you might be able to use that to build on the info you already have, especially since at least some of it carries over to 2nd gen ex's

For less than the cost of what some folks pay for ridiculously low gauge wire & cable, you can own not only the wiring diagrams, but the entire Service Manual!.

An example of the included diagrams:

Is it legit? Does it violate copyrights somewhere? I don't know, and I didn't wait to see if they got shut down before I got my copy!

I've also bought such a PDF manual on CD for my 2007 Explorer at ebay for about 15$.
It has also exactly 4033 pages like offered at the link above, so I think it's the same manual with the same quality.
But depending on the quality, I'm not very happy with that.
The manual comes from a Windows program and has been extracted to a PDF file.
To keep this file size low for downloading or copying it to cheap CDs instead of using "expensive" DVDs, the resolution of the images is somewhat low.
Especially when you zoom into detailed images.
4033 pages with images and a file size of 121 MB? What do you think, you will get?
Nevertheless I am very happy to own my manual. But I would have payed some more bucks for higher resolution images.

The "Official Wiring Diagram/Exploded View/Service Proceedure Request Thread" would consist of the same resolution diagrams or worse. I think the $20 Download is more practical. If everybody who replies to this thread would kick in $1.00, we could collectively buy the PDF manual(s) and make it (them) available to members to download. Would that run counter to some "copyright" laws? Maybe not, if it was considered a library or something.

I disagree about the resolution. The diagrams, etc. that I get from my shop manuals are of a good resolution.

I appreciate having a printed manual, with crisp diagrams, although the tissue thin pages and cumbersome navigation are a minus. A DVD version must awesome, and that's to be expected for the price. But, no matter how high the quality is, by the time it's uploaded to the "Wiring Diagram/Exploded View/Service Proceedure Request Thread", it won't be any better than the low res PDF versions. The ones posted above are less than 100kb each, yet still quite usable.

Still, it seems to me anyone who can afford a nice vehicle like the late model Explorers, should be able to afford, and would want the $20 manual. Even though it's a compromise from the full fledged shop manual in print or DVD form. It certainly beats a cobbled together Internet forum thread!

How about this? Add to that verbiage, that you'll receive a bonus of a free PDF manual for your Explorer when you become an Elite Explorer. Worth the price of membership alone! Unfortunately, the PDF manuals are only available up to 2010. But, if Explorer Forums gains only ten new members from that offer, it will be a break even proposition. Every new member after that will be gravy! Or, perhaps work a deal with the PDF supplier to give a discount to any members sent there from Explorer Forum. That's got to be a viable arrangement, since they'd be out a whole lot of sales if Explorer Forum offered it as a bonus to Elite Explorer members instead.

Oh, one more thought. I'd be willing to offer my copy of the PDF manual of the "Ford Explorer and Mountaneer Repair Manual and Wiring Diagrams 2006" to get the ball rolling. I am not a lawyer, but by the looks of this legalese in the beginning of the PDF manual, there may be zero concerns about copyright crap anyway!

So someone posts a thread with vehicle and feature identification and asks for a procedure or schemeatic to help resolve a problem. So how does the response get posted? In many cases there will be several files (pdf, etc) and some jpg images. How and where will these be posted?

It is relatively easy to distribute this info in an e-mail. Posting a schemeatic or two within a post is easy for some experts, as shown in this thread, but not for others. Posting pdf files that usually contain links to other files is a whole different story.

On other sites there are forums specifically for user procedures and this includes pdf versions of factory procedures. Instructions for posting are shown. Copyright was never an issue, but I don't know the history.

I can sometimes provide procedures and schemeatics. It is a good idea.
