I think I messed up my rear carrier /differential by not adding the friction modifier when I changed the fluid in the summer. Explorer has about 120K on it. It now shutter on turns from a dead stop and the handling went out the door (might be a different problem) , but I got a used unit from a salvage yard and as far as I can tell it will work. Both are 3L73 and axle fits . All info is in pic attached. Thanks in advance.

First thing. No pictures attached.

Second thing. By not adding friction modifier I don't think it would damage the metallic parts inside your current axle assembly.

The only thing the friction modifier does is allow the LS clutch packs to "Slip" a little bit during turns.

You posted that you have 120K on the current unit before the fluid change. They were more than likely on the way out anyway.

May I suggest changing out the rear LS clutch pack sets and installing new fluid and friction modifier?

This might be less work than changing the whole rear end.
