won't shift into park lock into any gear or start

2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0L V6 SOHC 4x4 won't shift into park, so can't turn key to start the vehicle. Also, it "slides through" the other gears, but won't lock into any gear. Worked fine yesterday. Would like to get it to start so I can at least drive it to my local shop rather than having it towed. Thanx in advance for the help

try neutral

Try putting the gear selector in Neutral. The starter should crank in either Park or Neutral.
