Won't start???

Here's the skinny;
I pretty sure the problem is in the gear selector switch because this happened before and I was able to get it to start by shifting, P,R N D back to park and then all was good.
93 w 140,000

Has any one had this problem? My good friend is working on it right now- on his way to ford to look at the schematics of the steering column
Any ideas or where I/he should start? I'm at work so I wont be able to help until after work. If I'm lucky he'll have it fixed when I get home

I had the gear selector kill switch problem also. The only thing that fixed it was adjusting the linkage at the tranny.

I did band-aid the problem though with my starter button which bypassed the stock ignition switch. Turn the key to "on" and push the button and it started every time
