I picked up a set of 4 resevoir shocks for nothing they need to be rebuilt. They are 32" extended and 22" compressed. 10" travel. I just don't know if I would be able to use them.

What kind of lengths are needed in shocks with say a 2.5" lift. Or can someone tell me an approximate lift required to use these. I guess some hoops could be installed or different shock mounts.

Though I haven't measured the actual lengths of various Explorer shocks - a set like this would definately be an asset for off-road wheel travel. I would just modify the mounting locations and run them if they were mine...

On the front, a new shock hoop could be installed that gains you the added distance. In the rear, different mounting locations - may help you to utilize the length.

On my 92, I am running a front shock that is almost double the stock length - with an F 250 Ford truck shock mount in place of the standard one. In the rear, I have incoporated longer shocks by modifying the upper and lower mounts - and calculating the down travel vs. the uptravel differences (I make the shocks extend farther than they compress - but let full up travel happen) so that I get full droop on obstacles. It would only take a couple minutes with a tape measure to see how they would work out...

BTW, with 10" of travel, mount the shocks at an angle - more axle movement - less shock travel.

Thanks that's good info. I am real bad when it comes to relocating shocks. I usually take my measurements eye to eye then droop and stuff and go find a shock that meets the needs as best I can. I have never relocated shocks but this could be fun.

So installing the rear shocks like this will more flexibility in using these shocks?

This install looked rather simple in locating a bar atop the frame rearward.

What would I be looking for as to an angle or distance from the axle back?
