I'm getting ready to start my system upgrade and for some reason I can't seem to get the idea out of my head about using 2 sets of 2 ways components in the front door to create some real kick ass sound.

I'm considering a set of Boston Acoustic Z6's and a pair of MB Quart PCE 213's (the MB Quarts I already have).

This does present some challanges with the system build, but would it sound that much better than if I just put in the BA Z6's?

Looking for input on this one before I begin.

Thanks,

Roveer

Personaly I would stay with one set of components in the front.

If you go two sets you will need a 1ohm stable amp as when you use components you are running two 4ohm speakers paralelled which = 2ohm load per chanel which is what most 2 chanel amps will handle.

I would not mix either.

How about mixing up your own component set?

A buddy of mine build some custom pods for his 91 GMC Sonoma. Each door had a pair of 6" mid/woofers, one 4", and a pair of tweeters. Brands might have included Vifa, Peerless, Dynaudio, or others. His front stage was insane. Each door had an Alpine V12 amp putting out 300 watts. He made some sort of custom passive crossover, but I am not sure on any of that. Add on top of those, a pair of round 12" Kicker Solobarics, each with it's own Alpine V12 amp putting out 600 watts...

one set of good components with a good install and enough power to them should be all you need. Ditch your rear speakers unless they're dedicated midbass drivers

Right.
which = 2ohm load per chanel
Not so right. When using properly crossed-over components, they do not reproduce the same frequencies. The tweets do the highs and the mids do the ,well, mids. Therefore, the amp doesn't "see" the two speakers at the same freqs. Each componet set or co-ax speaker is a 4 ohm load so a pair would be 2 ohm per door. But its alot of speaker for one door and if the original poster is gunna buy a new set(mixing is a bad ideaif you can help it) then do as Wagonized says!

Hope this is of some mild use.

But if he ran two sets of components off one chanel wouldn't this give you a 1ohm load?

OK, I've almost got it out of my system. Before I abondon it all together and just go with a nice set of BA Z6's in the doors with the tweets up high, I have one more question.

How about the Z6's with the PCE 213's and a nice 3 way cross over? Am I just wasting my time here? Considering driving it with a nice ZED Deuce (200w per side).

Thoughts?

Also, where would I get a nice 3 way xover?

OR

Just an awsome set of 3 way components with a 3 way xover. Suggestions.

Really want a full sounding front stage so I don't have to revisit this in the future.

Thanks,

Roveer

Consider some kick pods made for the Explorer?

all four speaker would be 1 ohm mono, but a pair per side is 2 ohm stereo

So it would only be a 1ohm load if the amp was bridged then?

Yes. Two co-ax or comp sets per door is not a terrible thing to do. you wouldn't want to bridge the two sets mono cause then you would lose stereo imaging. Its just alot of speakers in a door when one good pair should do fine. Maybe a three-way comp set with something like a 6.5 inch, 4 inch and tweet. you can find co-ax and comps that are made to be 2 ohm per side, to get the most out of amps that give more power at 2 ohm stereo...

kickpanels will make as much of a difference as running the 2nd set ( maybe more)

depends which speakers you're running. some components are specifically designed for the mid and tweeter to be seperated and not down low in kicks

i was just referring to the output- havign htem "on axis" will make them seem a lot louder with most any speakers

I've yet to find kick panels for my year explorer "06". Qlogic (I think) only has them up to 96 (bizzare), and I haven't found any others. Also an issue with trying to get kicks in with the parking break. Very little space down there. Guess I'll move foward with my BA Z6 idea.

Roveer I see you are having the same problem like me. Hey guys how would a 6.5 and a 4” fit in the door? Any pics?

you guys can make your own kickpanels

it's time for another entry in my fiberglass how-to...

I'm in the process of making kicks for my mercedes right now anyways...

I don’t want Kickpanels they make the truck look old. I want to keep my factory look with good stage sound. I have 2 15” HX2 so I need the stage to go with that for SQ.
