3.25 HP @ 3969 RPM

ROFLMAO!!!!

WHO in their right MIND would spend that kind of money for what K&N found to be a 3.25HP increase.

You're 4.0 will really be a neck-snapper after this mod!!!

3.25HP couldn't pull my zipper down!!!

Gotta love MSRP...

They list the one for the SOHC at $264.08. I paid ~$120 for it...:D
Plus it's CA smog legal...

Where can I get one? I have $300 kicking around somewhere here. :D

Just changing the intake is not going to make much of a difference in HP. You need to pair it up with at least a cat back exhaust. That is another $300. No dyno but I believe that you can get close to 10-hp at the rear wheels with the combination. Also throttle response is improved. HP is expensive.

Umm, it's not rocket science, just simple arithmetic (and for $30, it's a steal!!). Mine paid for itself long ago.

A regular paper filter around here costs $10-$15. We'll call it $10 for this discussion. I had to change mine every 6,000 miles, but lets say, just to be conservative, you go 15,000 miles between filter changes.

That means that every 15,000 miles, you're spending $10 on a new filter. Over 105,000 miles, you purchased 7 filters, totalling $70 and have had to change 7 filters. Now, if you drop a K&N in there, and even if you buy the $10 recharge kit, in that same 105,000 miles, you have, at worst, invested $60, and again, at worst, recharged the filter twice. Last time I checked, $60 was less than $70.

Now, lets say that you change your filter every other oil change like I used to (for me, every 6000 miles I used to change paper filters). Now, over that same 105,000 miles, at $10 per filter, you've spent $170 on air filters, compared to $60 on the K&N with a recharge kit. The K&N paid for itself three times over, and that's if you're getting a cheap $10 paper filter. If you're buying a $15 Motorcraft, the paper filters were costing $255 in 105,000 miles...

As opposed to those of us that are 'out of our right mind' and ised a K&N for $60...

Thanks, I'll stick with my K&N. I'll clean it every 50,000 miles or so... If I feel like it. Maybe someone in their right mind can help me figure out what to spend that extra $200 on... ;)

Jeesh GI, I didn't want to offend anyone!!!

What I was really referring to was the K&N cold air intake KIT.

On my '88 Ranger, 2.9 I have a K&N cone filter...I took a PVC "insert" and fitted it to the inside of the intake hose, so I had something to clamp on with a hose big clamp, then just clamped the cone filter on the end.

No, not a good idea since i'm basically just sucking in hot underhood air.

In the Coast Guard ALL we used were K&N's b/c we could clean them, not for power.

I DO agree with you...I want to drop in a K&N and "swiss cheese" my airbox, although NO ONE has pics of this mod!!!

I wasn't offended in the least... Just poking fun at your comment, that's all... :)

Oh, and I missed the fact we were talking about an FIPK, not just a filter... I agree with you on that one... Unless the stock system limits the amount of air coming into the system by being significantly over-restrictive, it's pointless. The only time that 2.5 Hp would come into play is at WOT. Around-town, there will be little if any noticeable difference.
