hey there.
My 1999 X just was the victim of a hit and run accident that (of course) the police will never find... anyway I had the drivers side mirror smashed off the thing and about 4-5 scratches on my front right 1/4 panel just past the wheel (no dents) and the gray part of my bumper recieved a few small scratches.. all in all I am really lucky 'cause my X didn't get dented or no-one got hurt but, the estimate that the repair (body shop) place gave me was like $978.00 I think that is rediculous.. am I being ripped off???? my insurance paid off 498 dollars of the price and I have $500 deductable, I wonder what I should do??

i couldnt tell u if the price is high or low or right because i dont know exactly what the damage is. im sure if u post some pictures, people on the forum who know more about body damage repairs could tell u a better estimate. depending of they can buff out the scractches or have to repaint the bumper and doors, it could get pricey. that sucks about what happened, but sometimes u just can do anything about these things except a few preventative measures, like not parking on busy streets, parking in brightly lit areas, near other big cars, not parking near 2 door cars, because they tend to be heavier and swing out wider.. etc..

I had that happened to me once when I was 16 (I'm 20 now). I was driving a Jeep GC 5.9Limited at the time. He (who was drunk) ran a red light at 60 mph and t-boned me when I was going across the intersection and I rolled 3 times and landed on the roof. The Jeep was totaled but I came out with a cut on my forehead. I was very fortunate.

Anyways...that estimate sounds a little high. Find another reputable body shop and get an estimate. Good luck!!

No, that price does not seem too unreasonable.
Keeping in mind you can't really paint just the scraches but the whole pannel , and the adjoining pannels.
If your mirror got ripped off portion of your door could very well be damaged as well. Then there is removal of the exterior trim , disposal fee's , bla, bla, bla.

it cost me 2000 to replace the back door and bumper of a jeep. your price is a great one!
