I have a 2006 mercury mountaineer that has been operating fantastically for the past year. Out of nowhere it seems to randomly get stuck around 3rd gear, engine revs to 5-7krpm without shifting. If i slow down it seems to do the trick or if I immediately park and turn it off on and back on it works fine. The wrench light comes on for about 20-30 secs then disappears. It's a 6 cylinder luxury edition, any ideas guys?

I am am not sure what the wrench lite is. But it has been my experience when a tranny acts like that the clutches are going bad. Another words a new tranny. I could be wrong. My experiences are with older cars.

You need to pull the stored codes (DTCs) in the computer and then we can tell you what the wrench icon is trying to tell you. I believe that Autozone has a code reader (loaner) that will tell you exactly what the DTCs are.

Ok, So I stopped by Auto Zone yesterday and they pulled the code and said it was a dealer code, but it did mention something about the ABS system...So I'm not quite sure where to go from here other than having the dealer pull the code..

That's great, but they had the exact ABS code and should have told you what it was. Alright, well start with checking all of your ABS sensors to make sure that they are not knocked loose out of the mounting locations on each wheel and also check the ABS snap rings for any damage (missing teeth) or not seated properly. That is the most common thing that throws the wrench icon on the dash.
