I have done several searches, but nothing seems to fit my problem. I have an '03 Explorer 4.6L with 66K miles. It has, for lack of a better description, a rattle coming from the lower rear area of the engine. The noise is evident at idle, once the engine is warm. It also occurs on the road whenever I am accelerating. It stops the second I let off the gas. The frequency, or pitch, if you like, seems to increase with acceleration as well. The exhaust system seems to be solid, as far as I can tell by trying to crawl underneath (I'm recovering from a broken leg so my mobility is limited...both by my boot cast and by my wife
). Any ideas or troubleshooting suggestions will be appreciated. I'm trying to decide if this is something I need to have addressed now, or if it will wait until I'm more physically able to dig into it a bit deeper myself.
