Removed the front tires/wheels and found Zerk grease nipples by the front upper wheel hub areas, used my grease gun to fill the grease nipples, all went well.

When I

I then removed the rear tires, I found Zerk grease nipples by the rear wheel hubs, (see picture), however these Zerk grease nipples are a larger size than the front wheel area Zerks. I measured 5/16" in diameter on the rear Zerks, and my standard grease gun will not fit over these Zerk nipples. I tried to find a grease gun that had a larger adapter to fit over the larger Zerk grease nipple but no luck. Any suggestions on where I can do more research to steer me towards getting these fittings lubricated?

That kinda looks like a brake fluid bleeder.

Ring that bell, Josh was right! I looked up this site: Maintenance: Brake Fluid Bleeding – Explorer Platinum
The pictures shows the brake bleeder screw. Thank you.
No need to mention this to the Trail-boss, I can just hear it now, "you squirted grease into the brake line, what the heck are you doing!"
Ya know, I was going to blame this on my stupidity, but you know I got that third booster shot ....

Lmao but you definitely got an A for effort

Heh, well it's not entirely a bad thing to do... If I'd greased mine (on the '98, the '14 is spotless still) the whole time, they probably would have rusted less, but I'd have to leave the excess grease on there instead of wiping it off so it looked clean.

I'm still thinking of manually applying a bead of silicone paste grease around the base of the bleeder fittings, maybe after the next round of having the dealership do the rear toe link recall work. They finally contacted me to LMK they had the parts in, not sure if they'll actually REPLACE them this time or just look at it again and tell me "nope it looks good still...".
