Really need help on this one.. the mounty is my only car and my daily driver,,

I was able to install the spacer today but was left with 2 problems..

1. i cannot, for the love of god, make that egr tube reach the headers. closest i got was about 1/2".. bending it was a piece of cake though.. i've bended that tube at all possible means by hand but it still wouldnt reach.. is there any type of high temp rubber hose that i can use and clamp it as an extender? or even a pipe fitting/extender (i walked to home depot and bought a 3/4", 1/2" and a 5/8" assortment of couplers and nipples.. i think the 5/8 fits but they do nat have a coupler for it :( anybody knows the size that i should use???)

2. i tried to start the car even if the egr was not installed and all i got was a loud clicking sound.. my guess would be the battery got discharged? I was opening and closing the door the whole duration of the install..

hope to hear from anyone on how to go about extending the egr without taking the whole thing apart again..

Thanks!!!!

bump..

the battery kinda held a charge when i tested it last night so i was able to start the car atleast 3 times.. it started right away and the CEL went away after 1-2 seconds.. the engine would just die after 5-7 seconds running.. probably because the egr tube isnt connected at all and the egr bung on the header was just left open..

i'm still searching for an extender fitting for the egr tube~bung and had no luck at home depot or ace hardware.. i bought a marine exhaust hose and some clamps and i'll try that out tonight..

any ideas on what size the thread is and the pipe size too?

any ideas at all?

For now, you can just plug the egr. You can run fine without it.

hmm.. my truck starts but it stalls after a few seconds then dies out completely.. could that be the effect of the egr tube not being connected and capped off?

i could plug it but i cannot find a proper sized cap/fitting for it..

I got one at napa when I deleted my EGR. I forget the size, but it's like a drain plug for a piece of heavy equipment, it was like $7.

You need to take your EGR tube to somebody that can weld and have them extend it an inch.

it seems like that is the only way to do it..

let me see if i can remove the egr tube from the intake without taking it all apart..

got the egr tube fixed today!!! :D

so everythings installed and double checked.. engine started right away and idle is all over the place :( i have to give it some to moderate gas pedal to keep the engine alive.. after a few more seconds of that then the engine starts to make loud knocking/popping and backfiring sounds then eventually stalls and dies..

all the connections are double checked and all are connected..

i disconnected the battery right now in hopes of the computer resetting :dunno:

does an intake spacer really make the engine seem like a newborn trying to crawl/walk?

what are your thoughts on the knocking then stalling?

help ..

Wow-
did the check engine light illuminate?

If there was a massive vacuum leak you would get a "lean pop" when the throttle is depressed,

The knocking has me stumped--

Thats the funny thing.. the cel light goes out like normal..

how do you determine if there is a "massive vacuum leak"?

it just goes like this..

i turn the key and it starts right away and idles high and everything sounds smooth.. i give it a little bit to moderate gas cause i see the idle dropping and i keep doing this for a few more minutes to keep it "alive".. as soon as i drop the idle a bit, the stalling resumes and then knocking/popping sounds happen.. the idle goes really low that the tach doesnt show any reading at all but if you press the gas even a little bit the engine goes back to life..

i can take a video of the whole thing.. would that help?

i disconnected the battery in hoping that the computer resets and relearns itself and i'll try again in a few minutes in hopes that works..

How clean is the IAC solenoid? Check over the vacuum lines really carefully, squeeze them and move them to see if the engine runs differently. Is the fuel pressure vacuum line on and tight?

there are only a few lines that need disconnecting..

1. line going to the brake booster - connected
2. two lines in front of the upper intake (driver side) one underneath and one on top of that.. both are connected
3. two lines going connected to the egr tube - connected
4. two lines cennected (a green and a red one with 90* elbows) to ufo looking things - both are connected

CDW6212R,
i just cleaned the IAC mid last year using the tips seen on the forum..

hehe.. um.. which one is the fuel vacuum line?:monkey:

heres the movie clip i just took:

glad to hear its back together at least. id say IAC might be it. did you clean it when you tore everything down? any idea how your fuel pressure is?

i can try and clean the IAC again.. there were no problems before the spacer install.. everything ran great besides a few hesitation when on wot now and then..

i'll go clean it up and be right back..

2.5 hours after the post before this..

i finally found the problem and she lives, with no ticking i might add!!!!! it wasn’t any of the vacuum lines or connectors.. it was the gaskets .

the one on the bottom managed to shift a little bit out of alignment and created the whole line of problems.. i cannot believe how such a simple thing can lead to numerous symptoms..

thank you all who posted and to all who gave their diagnostic help to this thread!:salute:

if there is anybody within my area who needs help installing their spacer on a 2nd gen let me know and i might be of some assistance.. i can help you address the egr length issue and possible problem areas of your install..

Thanks again to all!

You might want to find some good vacuum tubing to replace the aquarium hose-
under heat and vacuum it will collapse. Ask me how I know--;)
