I am trying to decide between the two...they both claim to not lock up on the street while in turns, but the lock right says not reccommended for road applications...Which one shoudl i get, my Ex sees roads alot and the trails every now and then. Its a weekend warrior i guess is what to call it. The no slip is just so much more expensive, im not sure which is better, or why....any help would be appreciated. thanks.

well i might be...but becasue its available ha...the lockrites are still cheaper. This is also for knowledge on the subject. I am wondering what the differences are.

I don't know the differences, but ihad the lock right in my front end and have never had a problem with it

even in snow? the front is obviously ok for the road since it isnt engaged during normal everyday use.

never tried it in the snow, I lived in Biloxi, MS untill it was destroyed the other week, i just moved to GA so i'm not sure.

i think this is only true for the 95 and 96 explorers since they have the axle discos..

nope its the same for all second gens... well if they have the brow wire mod.

My brother has a lock-rite in the rear of his full size chevy and it seems to be fine on road.

im just curious as to why they say that it should only be used in extreme offroad situations and then go on to say it has good road manners...

you have to get the no-slip if you have the trac-lok carrier.
other than that the no-slip is suppose to be quieter

well im open front and rear....can i expect extra tire wear? locking tires in parking lots? "Gas station burnouts?" (got a buddy with lockers and in the gas stations he jsut chirps tires all day...)

with either you will be chirping tires if you gas it and turn hard... same with tire wear. A locker is a locker is a locker. Generally the long er the wheelbase the less you notice the effects though.

The aussie locker is $229

well brand name isnt really the debate topic now ;) i have yet to decide between Aussie, Powertrax or Detroit. I am really wondering if running the Lockright,EZlocker or Aussie Locker (not limited slip ?) on the street is fine. My X is a weekend warrior with most of its time on the street. The LS are just so much money compared to the Lockers and if the only byproduct is a ratchet sound then ill save my 200$ and listen to the ratchet ;)

The biggest difference between the lockrite and the no-slip is their on road manners. The no-slip is quieter and smoother than the lockrite. As far as offroad, both work equally, and both work well.

If you don't mind banging, and the occasional driveline pop, and chirping tires when turning on occasion, pay less and get the lockrite. If you want a little smoother operation on the road, get the no-slip.

i am all for the lockrite... you dont notice it after a month or so of driveing no matter which one you get. Its just like with any mod you learn to drive differently. When you lifted you might have slowed down some to compensate fo rhte higher center of gravity. With a locker now you will most likely not be so agressive on teh throttle around corners.

Forget all this stuff and just get a Detroit locker. I had a no-slip and it lasted one Rubicon trip. Some people have had great luck with them, but I am for spending more money the first time and not having to replace it again. My Detroit has been in the rear diff for a few years now. Its quiet on the street (hardly any pops, pings or bangs) and works awsome in the dirt.

i have decided on the Aussie Locker. I can get it for like 230 shipped so the price is right ;) I cant warrant spending $700 on a locker right now, so the full detorit is out of the question for me (college student). I was thinking about the EZLocker, but then the engineers at TracTec (detroit) did not recommend running the EZLocker on my DD, where as the guys at powertrax did recommend the LockRight on a street driven vehicle, however they said it is loud....the guy at Aussies said he has one in his DD and its quiet and smooth. (They are also cheaper than both Detroit and Powertrax, and not to mention an EF Vendor)

Well, good luck with it. Just take it easy on the street when you make sharp turns if you want it to last. The good part about the LockRite is when they go, you can usually get it home. Use some real good synthetic gear oil and check it often for water contamination.
