18" Saleen Wheels on 99 EB 2WD

Just got my new wheels installed. They are the Saleen Mustang style wheel.

The wheel is 18x9 with +24 offset.

I had to have a 1/4" spacer installed on the fronts to clear the dustcap on the hub, and allow me to keep the centercap in the wheel.

Tires are Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus in a 265/60/18 size. It's an "S" speed rated tire, so I can't exceed 112, but the electronic governor stops me before that.

Once I lower it, I'll probably go with a 255/55/18 Kumho STX, a "V" speed rated directional treaded tire. But for now, I'm quite happy. :-)

UPDATE 8/20/06: The 265/60/18's do rub on the sway bar when at full lock, but it's very minor.

Thanks guys. I found that not many people were running an 18" wheel, so it was sorta tough to get experience on tire sizes.

Thus far, with the stock suspension, and that tire size, I have NO rubbing, and the 265 looks plenty wide on that wheel.

I'm tempted to try a 285 next time around, but I'm afraid it'll start rubbing.

cherry when I started looking at wheels for my Exp and found out Mustang wheels would fit the first design that ran through my head were the Saleens. After seeing your truck I'm 100% positive those are what I'll be "gifting" myself this Christmas.

Glad I could help you make the decision. I'm very happy with mine, I'm sure you'll love them too.

Another member on the board actually did these before me, and I didn't know about it. Check out IAmTodd's registry. Gives you another idea of what they look like on a different color. He's got 255/55's on his 18's. Per his description, the rear springs are sagging a bit (normal on this truck) and he lowered the front t-bars to match. I think it looks great, has me looking forward to lowering my ride, and putting slightly smaller tires on it.

Be sure to post pictures when you get them!

You think that is hard, I am trying to find tires to fit some 20" Rims. It is a 20x8.5 rim and I am not sure what size the stock tires are on my truck, i don't want the wheel size to go down any so it won't "lower" and am unsure of what to do. Looks like you did good though, nice work

Try to find a 29" (actual) tall tire

is there any way to bore out the middle of the wheel instead of using a spacer? EVERYONE i talk to says spacers are "ok" but they wouldn't do it. and i really don't NEED new rims but i thought the look of some 17s or 18s would be pretty sharp. i want to run center caps, but not a spacer, possible?

I am not sure about the cobra wheels, However, when I put my cobra wheels on, I decided my stock Mounty wheels would look good on my 84 dodge pickup. They were the 20 hole type.Center was just a bit too small. I had a machine shop enlarge the center hole on them, and they are working fine 3 years later.

However, this does effect the overall integrity of the wheel, I am sure.

So, I guess I could say it can be done. I wouldn't recommend it for obvious reasons.

I like the way that your tire and rim combo work with the colors of your truck.

Hey All,

Thanks for the positive comments.

For those of you who asked for more pics, what else do you wanna see? So far, this thing is still pretty much stock except for the wheel and tire combo.

You want more angles, or what? I should probably wash it, then I can snap some more shots. :-)
