Hi I am in the process of installing a TPS sensor on my 4.0 Sohc Explorer.

What is the correct way to install this? Is it just a bolt on or do you have to line up the metal Tab on the TB in some way with the internal plastic nubs in the TPS?

My truck is down at the moment and I need to use it this afternoon.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes lazz, there is a small "trick" to it.

Remove the tps, and look at the T/B shaft, notice which direction it rotates when you pull throttle open.
Now, look inside the TPS Mechanism, you will see 2 small ridges. The shaft must be on the correct side of these for proper actuation of the sensor. If you rotate the sensor against this movement, and feel a spring resistance, it is installed correctly. You can now install the screws. Hope I explained this:confused:

That is what I thought JTS, I am not getting the tab under the spring.

I am just lining the TPS up to the screw holes and bolting it down, is there a special way such as twisting the TPS?

I keep getting a reading of .046 volts no matter what I do. I also cannot feel a spring resistance.

Does it matter if the TB shaft is on the top or bottom of the 2 small ridges?

Yes
Install it a bit "backed off, then rotate it into position. You should feel it "resist" a bit. So, assuming the throttle plate shaft rotates in a clockwise direction-line the TPS a bit counterclockwise of it while installing, then rotate it untill the holes line up. Feel it?

Going out to try it now.

If I installed it without it lining up what problems would occur?

Lazz - What sensor did you get, the 4.6 or the 4.0 sensor?

oops let's rephrase this
install the tps just a bit further in THE SAME DIRECTION as the travel of throttle plate shaft, and rotate backwards until the holes line up--

Should the TB shaft go in between the two small ridges or above the two small ridges?

I got the 4.0 Jakee.

It should go on, so that the shaft will turn the machanism, and is already applying force when at idle--the mechanism will only turn one direction.

I sort of hope I'm wrong on this but I just don't think that 4.0 sensor is going to engage with the 4.6 TB housing. See the other thread. Let me know what you come up with.

Ok.

Jakee, I am still running the stock TB at this time.
