How hard is it to remove the big console piece that has the cupholders etc?

I'm looking at cutting a piece out underneath the HVAC controls & mount a Scangauge II (if room permits)...

I found out the hard way, there's not a lotta space back there... thank God I can cover my mistake, it's under that black mat... Very nice interior by the way! I wouldn't cut anything, but you know your vehicle. Just be aware, once you cut it, it's a done deal.

Taking out the console isn't difficult.

But.... Like Donner said, there is no room. Your vent tubes run back there & underneath the console.

Yep. It comes off with very little effort. No room behind it, really. And you might find a replacement piece for it at a junkyard if you screw it up, but at the stealerships they are a couple hundred bucks, if I recall.

so where would be a ideal spot to mount something? there's really not a whole lot of room anywhere in there...

One idea would be to install a stand DIN size after market radio and use the extra room there to install it. You have have to probably come up with some kind of custom insert to hold both though.

no room at all back there. Plus if you mounted it flush you would not be able to read it.

I believe that the new Scangauge is thin enough that you could mount it on the console there. Others would use a double sided tape. I would suggest a light amount of Ultra Black RTV. I stuck my tire temperature display on my windshield with the RTV, it won't let go, but can be pried off. Good luck,

I may just get a Livewire unit and see what can be done with that. My big issue is concealment because I live in a college town...

Can anyone guesstimate the dimensions of those? SCT really doesn't have much information on their site about them...

You could get some Bondo, and do a custom holder for the Scangauge, rather then cut into the console, build it up to accommodate the device

Let me know what you end up doing, I was thinking along the same lines as you.

Any updates on this?
