1996 OHV 4.0 Explorer Head/Head Gasket Replacement Question(s)

great job!

Im not trying to scare you, and Im sure I'm completely wrong. Do you have any more pictures of that cylinder with the head gasket failure? Look closely between the valves, and please tell me its just my parinoia, and the way the picture turned out.

I thought I saw it in the after cleanup pic, but Im sure if there was a crack you would have seen it when you were cleaning up the combustion chamber. I see you did a great job of cleaning it up.

I think Im just being crazy.

Drive and enjoy. Well done! Nothing like turning that key and having your motor spark up.

Thanks for the kind words, Dono.
That pic sure looks like a crack, I still have the head
in the basement, will take another look at it
tomorrow.

I went ahead and replaced the head too, with an
Alabama head, brand new with valves. I didn't
want to take any chances, and figured the new
head price wouldn't be much more than paying
for a shop's time. The head was about $235 shipped.

Looking forward to keeping up with your SC thread in the
'Need for speed' section....

Thanks for replacing that head. I'm really thinking our motors cracks a head if we breath on them the wrong way.
As you know, I've had a few head issues.
Let's hope we can keep our motors together for a very long time.

I don't know think ill push past 10 lbs boost. I'd like to be able to just drive for a while.

Again, congratulations on putting new life in to your truck. With it being such a low miler, I'm sure it will be money well spent.
