Flashing 4WD light.

what can cause the 4wd lights in dash to flash 5-times when starting vehicle, and 5-times while driving, without having the 4wd switch on? '98 ford explorer

You have a problem with the 4wd system you must scan it for codes to find faults. Its in the GEM module.
