Lifts and max tire and wheel sizes for explorers
This is a quick reference guide I have put together based on information gathered from the Explorer Forum. Remember this is just a guide. You may have to do some fender trimming to fit these tires on your explorer. Others things can change what size tire you can run on your explorer. Like fiberglass fenders, rim width and rim backspacing.. I figured this would help some of you that were pondering what size lift to run what size tires. If anyone would like to add something go ahead and post it and I will add it to my list. If any of the moderators could make this a sticky that would be great. Hope this helps.

ok i am gonna run 31's with a 2 inch tt and about 2.5 inch rear lift with custom made shackles. i want to also do a 1 inch body lift maybe 2 inches.

i would like to be able to put bigger tires then 31's because the tires give you the real clearance for the trails and people seem to be making the ruts bigger every day.

ok i would like to know what tires i can fit without triming i wouldn't mind 33 10.5's would this work without triming?

has anybody had their body lift start to push up through the floor ever? because if this don't happen on these trucks then i would like to do prolly a 3 inch body lift and the tt and shackles totaling 5 inches. what size tire then without triming at all.

I DO NOT WANT TO TRIM AT ALL! lol

i want the fenders to stay the way they are. i also want to keep the stock rims.

i have a 1999 ford explorer xlt 4x4 4 door

Quick question (from my brother), does the 4" rough country suspension lift (Dead Link Removed) for the 1st gen an actual 4" lift? Is it a good kit? Anyone have experience on this? Thanks y'all!

thanks but i couldnt fit 31x105s w/o rubbin in front

I just finished my lift and got tires. 265-75-16 = 32" tall tire. Much bigger compared to the stockers i had on there. No rubbing and havent had any problem other than wanting a V8 now to spin them a lil faster.

Quick question (for FROADER or anyone in the know), if using a 4" lift kit supplied with an Add-a-leaf for the rear, should one install a lifted shackle as well to level the rear to the front? Thanks in advance! ;)

Ive got a stock 2000 xlt with stock fender flares now im not looking to hack anything for no rub but i dont want to take the chance of them rubbing since everyone is multi opinioned. But would the 31x10.5x16 fill out the flares nice and what would i get out of a body lift compared to a susp. lift?

Could one install a 2" coil spacers and AAL on top of a 4" suspension lift kit to acheive a 6" all suspension lift? Thanks in advance! ;)

Help, what am i looking at in the way of parts for SOA on my 96XL, isnt it a matter of unbolting everything and putting it on top? thanks in advance!

Just what i was looking for ...you the man , thanks!

so you can really fit 31"s on a stock x wont it rub when you turn

Most of the time, yes. All trucks are different though, so some people have had to trim a little for 31s not to rub. Go for it.

Can anybody help me anwser this question? I have an 06 xlt 4x4 v8 with 245/65/17 's on it and i wanted to go a little bigger. I was looking at something like a 265/70/R17. I just wanted to know if anyone can tell me if this will fit without rubbing. I didn't want to do any trimming of the fenders. And if it wont fit if they knew what was the biggest size i could fit on my rim?
Thanks.
