I believe you need longer lug nuts from so research i was looking at. But besides looks im not sure if they do anything else. Maybe better handling in corners. I also read about it affecting tire sizes as well?

Ok i dont know if this affects all 2011-2014 explorers, but my MY11 has 1/2 x 20 lug nuts on it...if anyone else has 12mm lugs becareful when you upgrade to locks/tuner lugs might be different?

yep the set from Motorsport Tech comes with whatever size you need. Im not sure about handling; and it would probably not add very much.

Definitely installed for looks, and i dont think it would affect your tire size unless you are drastically lowering your ride. I know with the h&r flex spring drop and 22inch wheels you may have some slight clearance issues but there doesnt seem to be too much concern out there.

Definitely plan on 22 lol, not to sure of the drop. Too many head aches from when I last dropped my car and hated scraping and pot holes

installed

ok, so Lenny at Motorsport Tech hooked me up with the correct size studs this time and we're ready for install!

This is the minimum tools/material needed...

Once you have the wheels off; clean all contact surfaces with a wire brush and wipe with a rag to remove loose foreign material.

after the surfaces are cleaned up center the spacer on the hub/rotor face and start winding the supplied open lugnuts conical side in.

with even and multiple rounds, tighten the lugs in a diametrically opposed pattern; after tightening apply a drop of wd-40 to the new studs in preparation of reinstalling the wheels.

my iphone doesnt take great pics, but the 20mm per corner stance increase makes only a small difference without 22in wheels and a nice lowered stance.

but the nearly 1.5inch width increase is noticeable from behind, also the drive is tight and perfect. definitely noticed an increase in steering wheel stability; seems a little bit tighter/stiffer but in a good way.

Im very happy with the bargain bin price of $120; if i were to go full custom i might go with 15mm up front instead of 20mm. Gonna have to get some H&R springs to really compliment the new stance!!!

I have a question about your side vents. How is water going to drain out from it? We do experience some major rain falls in Texas and getting water splash on by big trucks so a vent that is open to the car inside is kinda scary if it is not drain out well.

The fender has a slight opening at the very bottom enough to let water out. Water gets I there anyway even without a vent.

How did you lower the truck? Different springs?

Yep, ford flex lowering springs from H&R.

That is by far the most gorgeous Explorer I have seen. Very nice!

New spacers for a discounted price !

I ordered spacers through Motorsport Tech for a set of wheels but have decided to change wheels so the spacers are not needed anymore . they are 15mm & 25mm to give the flush look . they cost me $285 shipped .

make me an offer and they could be yours

That should cover the cost of becoming an Elite member.:D:thumbsup:

Peter
I actually did the elite membership to try and help the sale of the spacers I bought . good thing I have it now because I am going to try and sell my OEM sport wheels with tires and sensors . my wheels should be shipping out on Wednesday so I should have them by next week . I will create a new thread about the wheels when I have the other ones mounted :D

For those with spacers, which one and how thick are you running?

Wanted to throw some on the stock sport rims to get flush with the fender. Will an inch do it front and rear? also what is our bolt pattern? tia

Wheel Spacer

I have searched and have been unable to find an answer. I'm getting my Ex Sport on Thursday and one mod I would like to do is add a 1 inch wheel spacer. Has anyone added spacers and if so, what make were the spacers. I can't find any listed for the '14 Sport. Thanks for any help....
