I was wondering how to identify the rear end gear ratio.

98 Explorer XLT 2wd 4.0L SOHC

Door sticker says Axle D4.

Thanks.

There's also a metal tag bolted to the pumpkin

you have a 3.73 gear ratio with a limited slip at the rear differential.

Thanks for the help. I tried looking elsewhere but only found Ranger sites. Wasn't sure it it's the same or not.

2nd question is I just changed to 31x10.5 tires so do I need to worry about re-gearing the rear? Will there be any damage to the trans? I have the auto w/ overdrive. Not sure the model, the door sticker says TR: D.

you have the 5r55e tranny which is better than the previous, but not the best.

you can go with 31/10.5/15 without changing gear ratio except if you want to wheel very hard.

gas mileage is going to decrease.
