new head unit bad reception

2005 Explorer XLT,

I recently installed a new head unit and can not get good reception. The antenna is plugged in as far as it will go into the new unit, but reception comes and goes. I couldn't find anything specific in the search for a direct answer to this.

it has to be the antenna connection.
It may be your antenna or the actual radio acting up.

do you have a power antenna... if so you need an extra wire so you can you use your new head unit
