I think the 95-96 OHV and the 4spd 4R55E are an excellent reliable combo. The later 5spd trans had some issues as well as the SOHC with the tensioner issue.
There is a guy around here who sells mostly used explorers and sells either 95-96 ohvs, v8s, and ohvs with manual trans. Many have 150K -200K miles when sold, and there are few issues(so he told me!). He told me if that trans is maintained at the 20K severe service interval it can last a very long time.
i made it to 287,000 then my headgasket blew out and since my temp gauge wasn't working anyway i didn't know it was done till she slowed right down....good ole 91'
