When i got my explorer the truck wouldn't shift into 4wd, ended up that the magnets in the shift motor were in peices. I ordered a brand new shift motor form rock auto and it came in the mail today. I installed it and when i push the buttons on the dash, nothing happens. No flashing light, no sounds, nothing. In installing a new motor i had to cut 3 wires from the old motor and connect them to the new one (one green, one blue, one brown wire). The install directions say to note where the wires were originally and to connect them in the same spots on the new one. I did this and double and triple checked it that it was right. I'm thinking that since the motor is new and wired correctly, the problem would lie somewhere between the button and the motor. How can i figure out what the problem is?

One thing i noticed was that on the old motor, the 3 wires i had to cut had some metal fittings inside the 'male' connector that the actual wire fit inside. Is using those fittings necessary? Because the new electrical connector does not have those fittings for those 3 spots. If i need them, would a parts store have them?

Here is the old motor and the metal fittings

Here is the new motor and you can see the 3 wires sticking through without the fittings

wow, your NEW motor connector is the bottom pic?

Yes, they Should have the metal "male pin".

If you just bought this motor and it's assembled this way, I'd give them folks a call and ask about this.

Dunno if you can get just the pin or not. Since those three wires often get cut, I'd find somebody with a pin extractor and re-cycle some leads from the old unit if i had to.

Bump for any other ideas. Could it be something besides the those pins?
