I have just bought a second hand set of 5 x 265/70/17s for AUD$250 (less than USD$150) - they have around 70% tread remaining so should be OK. Anyone running the Cooper STTs? Anyone know when the ArmorTek3 was added to the construction of them? My main concern is how they wear on tarmac (fast, slow, medium etc), and how are they in general (all the reviews I've read say they are great offroad, but not much info about on road performance).

I have a set on my Explorer for about a year, I love these tires. Great in the snow and I havent had any problem in the rain either. The wear on the seems to be better than average so far for any mud terrain Ive had on.

I have them, and love them. They started out on my 98 Ranger maybe two years ago? Now on the sport trac and have plenty of tread left. Quiet on the road for an MT, but get louder as they were (duh). Great in snow (especially deep stuff), a little sketchy on ice (but anything is).
I would buy them again.

Thanks for the info. And thanks Tex as well.

Sounds like I have a good tyre for a great price.

I got these fitted today. All up cost was $250 for the tyres, $180 delivery and $75 fitting, so $505 for a set with around 100m tread left (about 70%). When you consider that a brand new one is AUD$430 for 265/70/17, I'm happy with my AUD$500 spend (around USD$320) for 5 tyres!

They are very noisy between 60 and 80km/h, but Ok at 100 to 110 (65mph). And they look very good on the truck.

To answer the 1st post, armortek was added when the tire was re-designed a couple of years ago. It is now a 3 ply, and the 3rd ply is just as thick as the original two. It also has "snow", a thin layer of cord wrapped around the tire between the belts and tread. The carcass is tough as hell.

Rotate them often (if they were mine id do it every oil change) and they should wear great for an MT. Like most Cooper built MT's, they will cup and wear quickly if you dont keep up with rotations.

Thanks for the extra info - I have 3 sets of rims/tyres for this thing, so rotation of complete sets happens from time to time anyway, but if i keep the STTs on for longer than 3 months, i will be sure to rotate at that interval.

I removed my wheel spacers today to see if the rubbing would stop, and hey presto - not as much rubbing!

What Lift Springs Did you use? I love the look of your X. I have an 04 Limited and I am wanting to get sort of the same look as your lift with wheels and tires.
