Hi there,

Can anybody tell me what the plastic bottle/tank situated in the rear panel where the wheel jack is stored is for. Just got a '93 Explorer XTL with no manual (on order). Also anybody know if it possible to get rear light lenses for driving in europe. Thanks for any help.

Don't understand your title..... The plastic tank in the back should be your rear wiper fluid tank.

That would be your blinker fluid for your tails.. :D.

Euro tails. Google knows all.

It is the rear wiper fluid.

You fill it on the Left side as your standing behind the Explorer, with the hatch open.

There is a little rubber plug with a tab that says something like Wiper Fluid. Pull the tab, it will release the plug, fill the bottle. Replace the Plug.

Use a funnel. The geniouses placed the fill hole for a liquid right above the electrical tail light...

are you looking for euro ''style" tails (red turn signals)? or euro legal tails (have amber turn signals)??

Yes that white plastic container is the fluid holder for this.........http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=6
It is a vital but often neglected fluid and is not mentioned at all by Haynes of Chiltern.
Fear not mate we offer a wealth of information here for the safe enjoyment of your Explorer! I recomend this site as they sell superb gear that will enhance your driving experiance.
Enjoy and smile------even if you are angry at me!!! LOl

BTW, I don't know how cold it gets in Dublin, but if it goes below freezing for long stretches of time, it is very common for the fluid to freeze in the lines. You want to use windshield fluid that contains a de-icer.

Mike

yes, use wiper fluid that will not freeze,, imagine it getting warm again after you filled it, and it froze and split,, wiper fluid all over the back floor,,

I am looking for Europe Legal tail lights (amber turn signals)

Cheers

The 1991-1994 Explorers were not Exported to the U.K. So Ford never made an Explorer Export Lens.

Is there no exemption for imported cars?

If no exemption exists for you:

With a little trimming the plastic, you can make 1995-1997 Explorer Tail lamps work in the 1991-1994 Body.

There is a LITTLE wiring that is required though. 1991-1994 uses a SINGLE bulb for Running Lamps, Brake AND Turn Signal, and of course another bulb for the Reverse light. While the 1995-1997 Explorers had 2 bulbs. 1 Bulb was ONLY for the Turn Signal. 1 Bulb for Running Lights/Brake Lights. And another bulb for Reverse Lights.

You MAY be able to find some type of converter. I know they make one for going from 2 bulbs to 1....I wonder if it's possible to go the other way...

My uncle exported an Explorer to England in 91 or 92. He ended up having to get secondary amber markers attached to his rear bumper to make it legal.
