I am trying to find out what is the stock window tint % used on the back around the explorer 2002 etc. I want to buy the same % for the front. Any help would be good. Thanks

15% is what i was told by the shop that did my fronts... i did the same thing that you want to do...

its not actual tint ( from what i was told ) on the rear windows etc... the rear glass is ( stain'd glass ) when you go to have it done... they will tint the front as close as possible... it looks really good from the outside, everything looks like a perfect match, but on the inside you will notice a SLIGHT difference in how dark the fronts are compared to the rears, but again from the outside you cant even tell !!!!!

hope this helps buddy !!

CALDWELL is correct. I had 15% put on the front of mine as well. From the outside, it looks very close. On the inside, the fronts are darker. At night, you may have to roll the window down if it's really dark out when you are looking for something. Also, most shops will have a tint meter reader thing they can put on your back window to tell you about what % tint you have. 15% should do the trick though. Get pics up when you get it done.

And another thing, because anything under 35% on the fronts is considered illegal in most states, you may have to pay cash and will recieve no warranty if the tint screws up on you later. That's what I had to do but the shop was highly recommended that I went to.

I bought precut 20% tint for my front windows on E-bay. It said on the auction that it's the closest match to factory tint. It came precut to fit and I had a local tint shop put it on...didn't cost mush at all. The tint itself is pretty cheap and intalling it wasn't that much either. Look on E-bay and you'll find it.

i just had my fronts done today and the tint shop said that the backs are 20 % so thats what they did and it looks the same all around.

thanks guys I will check this out

I too had 20 on the fronts to match, but after friendly advise by a cop, I took it off, I need to buy 35% for the fronts :(

Did you get a ticket or a warning? I paid to much to take this off. I would go back to the tint shop to see if they have a cop friend that could write it off?

Verbal warning, I took it off myself in ~15min

Should have left it on! I noticed that opening the sunroof let's you see inside a little bit better. When I see a cop, I sometimes will open it up.

I can not afford a ticket right now, easier, faster and cheaper to take it off, besides, I don't have a sunroof so now I'll have to buy some legal one; a friend can put it on pretty much for free, maybe some liquid incentive will sufice hehehe

i ran 2% tint all the way around for about a year and a half with no cop problems....it was factory on back and 15% on front...and then a sheet of 5% limo tint all the way around...talk about not being able to see out at night lol

Factory back and 20% front with a shield strip....pretty dang close!

depends on where you live as far as cop problems. i just took the tint off my front windows because i was getting pulled over at least once a week. i got 2 tickets and more warnings than i can count. by the way, it was 20% and matched perfectly.

i had my rears tinted with 2% ontop of the factory to protect my toys inside then went with 32% for the front then had a mirror mercury emblem put on the inside of the sun roof and 20% tint over it.

th rear window i did the same mirror type army emblem. then tint over it so you can only see the army emblem when lights hit it or sun hits it. i'll have to have my brother take pics and send them to me. it looks pretty good

oh yeah and what color is your truck because if its a lighter color then a lighter tint will appear darker then it really is. and the other way around.
