I am looking to put darker 5% tint on my Explorer,(I plan to do this myself) But there is already factory tint on, can i put the 5% over the factory tint or do I need to get the factory tint off.? Also will I need to take off my rear wiper and lift glass hinges.?

You could put 5% on the front windows, and 10-20% on the back windows with factory tint and they'll match up. If you've never done it yourself, I recommend just going to a shop that uses quality material (none of those pre-cut tints on ebay are quality). It shouldn't cost you more than $200 a tint job. Tinting is more difficult than it looks.

I put 5% over my back windows and it is dark as all get out. It is easier to tint the back window with it removed, but it may be more involved to remove the glass than to just cut around the brackets and stuff. I tinted mine with out removing it. The back doors are 20% over the factory tint and the front windows are 20%. Check out my registry.

You can apply tint over the factory tint with no problems. As for the back glass, just cut the tint as you apply it

I have this same combo(see registry for pics). I've been in a blazer with 5% on all windows with a windshield strip too and headlights looked like dim flashlights out the driver and passenger side windows, even worse out the back side windows. I do however recommend a 5% windshield strip between 6 and 10 inches, they help a lot with keeping The sun out of your eyes.

One last thing, buy quality tint, not the cheap 15ft rolls from AutoZone, because it'll fade to purple in a year or two

Where Do You Recommend I Buy My Tint.? Is Summit Racing Good.?

I get mine from Advance Auto. Since I do it myself, I dont care if it needs redone after a while. But, I have had mine for 3 years and it hasnt begun to discolor or fade. The only tint I had that turned purple on me was stuff that was applied from a shop in PA years ago. The Gila stuff is frowned upon because it is hard to work, but on the Explorers it isnt really a problem. Just get the stuff in the gold box if you are going to do it your self. Most shops I have found recently are using the step above Gila so they can make money on the product, but it honestly isnt much better unless you are applying it. Gila is very hard at best to shrink to do concave curves on back windows.

I used tint from Summit for the windows on my boat. It held up great but was a huge pain in the ass to do. A few months later when I had my front windows tinted to match I found a guy on Groupon to do it for me for $30. I'd say shop around a bit. Try to find a good deal and save yourself a hassle.

There are a lot of How to vids on youtube about window tinting. If you dont plan on doing it very often, it would be a good idea to just have a shop do it. It took me several attempts to get half way good at it. Ask them what kind of warrenty the tint has against fading and make sure it is a shop that has been around for a while.
