Didn't remove the heads. I tore it back down to the lower intake just now.. adjusted the #5 rockers.. left the valve cover off, rebuilt the top end.. started it up and it runs awesome. Compression checked the cylinder. 150#. Perfect. But I know when I tear it down to reinstall the valve cover its going to fudge up again!
Found the prob! It's hitting on the valve cover (the side!) only when the valve is wide open. Luckily it was in that state when I tried to put the valve cover on and the hole wouldn't quite line up. So we hand turned the motor and *bump* it hit the cover. So now I'm going to go try and scrounge one up.
Yeah, I guess. I tried double-stacking some big cork gaskets.. but that didnt work. Guess I'll try and find some FMS covers around town tomorrow. ^$#@$% At least its not a bigger problem than that. Plus, I can now tear the intake off in about 2 1/2 minutes.
That valve cover was no match for my air hammer! I gave it a nice little dimple to accomodate the rocker.
Anyway, I'll have my writeup here in the next day or so. But in the meantime, here is what an Explorer with an e-cam, headers, and stock exhaust sounds like!
I know I'm pretty slow working on my junk at times.. : But I think this is a record.
After the cam swap in early 2004, I had a stalling problem. It didn't like going from reverse to drive, and vice versa, without stalling. So after researching it a bit on Mustangs forums I found a lot of guys run an IAC spacer to solve that common problem.
Well I bought the spacer in 2004 and installed it in 2009. : : But it does seem to have helped. I'll update again after a few more miles on it.
:biggthump Yeah, I'm sure you are the only one on here that buys things that you end up installing years later or not at all. Yes, you are the only one.
