I could hear and feel a miss at cold start. So I figure it could be the plugs.
The 4 on the drivers came out easy. Went to the pass side and the front one snapped right off easy. so I took the other 3 out and the third one back was a tuff one but got it.

Anyways I think the 2 harder ones were the originals and somebody could not get them so they changed 6. I say that because the two tuff ones had extra letter at the end(g).

Does anybody know what came stock then?
They sold me Motorcraft sp-432 to replace them with. Way longer threads but they seat the same..kinda strange. Ok plug?

Oh btw..2001 5.0 with just under 100k..runs real nice now.

Just for info I was ale to slowly dig out the porcelain before I heated what was left of the plug before I used the easy out..not sure if any porcelain ended up in the cyl though..but all seems fine.
Maybe it's ceramic I don't know..lol.

Ford original equipment uses different plugs for RH and LH bank-they do this with pretty much all their engines, I suspect it has something to do with where the electrode is oriented when it's tightened to spec. Whatever the reason the plugs aren't different enough to warrant aftermarket suppliers to make RH- and LH bank- specific plugs.

Interesting.
But in my case only 2 plugs had the g at the end.

Thats the first time I have ever heard of different plugs for each bank of cylinders. Have I been under a rock for 66 years?

I know about indexing but I never heard about diff plugs for diff sides...interesting.

I have my 96 Mustang owners manual as a PDF can't find the Explorers handy, but here's a C&P from the Mustang book:

If a spark plug is removed for examination, it
must be reinstalled in the same cylinder.
For 3.8L engines:
Cylinders #1, #2, #3 have an EG suffix.
Cylinders #4, #5, #6 have an E suffix.
For 4.6L (2V) engines:
Cylinders #1, #2, #3, #4 have a PG suffix.
Cylinders #5, #6, #7, #8 have a P suffix.

First I've heard of that. My daughters 05 Taurus 3.0 V6 didn't have that, neither does my 96 Ex. 4.0 V6. Learn something new all the time.
