I need to replace the drivers side mirror on my '03 ST and have been looking all over for one. It seems like $40 is the going rate for one anywhere. I cracked the glass a couple years back and it's time to replace it.

I found that the newer Ranger mirrors are only $21-27.

I like the look of the newer Ranger mirror because I'm used to West Coast mirrors on a Tractor-Trailer.

Since my ST is lifted I have alot of blind spots with the dinky mirrors the ST came with, I've added convex spot mirrors but they don't really help much and Carol hates how they take up have the mirror, plus cleaning them in the winter is a *****.

I've seen a Ranger with 1 ton Dodge Ram extendable towing mirrrors on it before when I drove OTR, his ranger was lifted about 10" so I'm guessing he had the same problem I'm having.

I know the 93-10 Rangers, 95-01 Explorers, 01-03 Ex Sports and the 1st Gen ST have similair mirror mounting plates but not sure if they are interchangable. Also looking at pictures of the 2nd gen ST's they look like they ahve the same mirrors as the newer Rangers.

If anyone knows if they will work, even with a little trimming/ modifications that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

DO IT ............ be the guinea pig !:D:D

I'll do some more research to see what works and what mods I'll need to do depending on the more I choose. I'm the first to build my own swing out tire carrier, might as well be the pioneer for this too.

You're pretty darn good at this stuff Jerry. We'll see what the result is.

(I'm thinking about buying a rolled 97-98 Gen 2 5.0L Explorer, cutting it across the windshield & under the seat and grafting on a Ranger cab section and then mounting my flatbed to it. Wanna come play? See that gives me a GT40 style 5.0L HO, a 4R70W tranny. Then it's smog legal and registers it as a passenger vehicle not subject to weighted license tags. :D:D I really do not like these 4.0L SOHC motors nor the 5R55E trannys!!
On the other hand I could just go back to a F150 and pay the weight fee....but I like to be different!)

If I had the money I'd be more then happy to come down and build that with ya, sounds like fun.

If no one tried this yet my boyfriend works at ford and got a newer ST mirror that he says should most likely fit. So tonight i might try to see if itll fit since it wont cost me anything haha . I will let you know if it works and if it does work ill take a picture to see how good it actually looks.
The mirror itself is broken but this way i can see if it looks good or not on our ST's before spending $60+ on a new ones.

They're the same as the 4th gen X mirrors aren't they? Thats a pretty common swap for the 3rd gen guys who have the same rounded mirrors we do.

I definitely see what you mean with the huge blind spots (or I might've missed it, sorry couldn't resist) especially after the SAS and being so much taller than a lot of cars. I've been thinking about swapping in 4th gen mirrors if/when I break one of mine but not really sure how square mirrors would look when everything else is rounded.

Thankfully I drive in the part of the country where everyone lifts their trucks.

Man I totally forgot about this thread. I still need to replace my mirror as the glass panel is broken (cracked). Hasn't been a high priority item.

Wow I didn't even notice the original dates...

The towing mirrors are enormous. I just helped put a set on my friends F350. They also weigh about 20lbs or do each. Maybe the F150 mirrors though.

Take pics of the mirror please cause I have a couple laying around ..

The mirrors i had were from a 2010 explorer and the base is a bit smaller then mine. They could definitely fit with some obviously triming and cutting. you need to drill new holes in the door for it to work and i might not have power mirrors anymore. I have pictures of it up against the truck and it looks awesome( i cant upload them photobucket isnt working).

We are thinking that the ranger mirrors will fit better since those doors havent really changed throughout the years so im gonna get my hands on those and try them out.

Yea the f150 mirrors I thought they where the same tow mirror

Nah the F150 tow mirrors are smaller than Super Duty mirrors. I'm thinking of the square 150 mirrors they used from 04-08. Not sure how they'd look or line up at all though. Then there's the more rounded ones that were on the Supercrew 150s and other from the 97- early 04

Yea that would be awesome and it would look good on such a big truck

Old thread, but has anyone found the answer: Will the mirror from a 2nd Gen ST or a '06+ Ranger fit on a 1st Gen ST?

Hehe, a little thread necro but there's some good info in here so I'm glad you brought it up for your question.

Is a 1st gen ST essentially the same as a 2002-2005 (third gen) normal Explorer? And is a 2nd gen ST the same as a fourth gen Explorer? The pictures I see on Google make me think so, but someone should confirm before you drop money.

If they are, then yes. A 4th gen Explorer (presumably 2nd gen ST) mirrors fit a third gen Explorer (1st gen ST) perfectly. It's completely plug and play, no modification required. I did a 4th gen to 3rd gen mirror replacement because I too couldn't stand the tiny mirrors on my 04 Ex.

Again, confirm that they use the same mirrors before you spend money.
