I noticed this light yesterday when I took apart my 95's gauge cluster. I've never seen it lit. I had no gas cap for a few months and it didn't go on then either. There was a bulb for it in the cluster.

Anyone with a 95-97 ever see it light up?

I have had 7 different explorers and have never seen that light come on. They had them up to 01 that I know of for sure.

Well I know 95-97's had different indicator lights and in different locations versus the later years.

Out of curiosity I looked in my '98 and there's no "fuel cap" or "check fuel cap" light. Just this gas pump looking indicator on the lower left of the right side gauges, by the battery gauge. Not sure exactly what that is either now...

You can see that one in this pic:

I'll look, but I don't think I have that light. If I do, I've never seen it come on, and I've had the gas cap CEL code before.

That's odd. Mine are exactly the same set up in a 97, except I have the Check Engine light where the fuel cap one is on yours. I've never seen a fuel cap light or gas pump light on my truck before..

Yeah this Fuel Cap light is where the Check Engine is, on my '98. The Check Engine on my '95 is where this mysterious gas pump indicator is on my '98.

The fuel pump icon means water in fuel, probably for export diesel engine equipped vehicles.

Interesting, never knew it existed. Thanks for the info.

I noticed on my '95 there's a socket right above the Check Engine that didn't have a bulb in it. It's labeled "HAZ" on the back side of the cluster. I wonder if that's another indicator that was for export.
All kinds of stuff I never noticed through the years :)

Hey! I'm export, why don't I have a diesel option?
I'd buy the **** out of that!

Hahaha, I'd buy a diesel here too.

And, I don't think I have the gas tank light. I'll go out later and see what lights I have..

With all the gizmos that my 97 has, I find it odd that it doesn't have any kind of low fuel warning, with the exception of the check gages light

I look on Ebay UK every once in a while and I don't think I've ever seen anything other than the 4.0's over there, no diesels or V8's.
I wonder with LPG conversions over there that maybe water in the tank would be an issue?

Yeah, and why they wouldn't spell gauge correctly :D

My '96 has that light, I ran without a cap for about 2 weeks before I could get a good quality MotorCraft one, It never came on, but I did get a CEL about it...

No bulb in the socket? Lol.

Maybe, I had the cluster out to install back light LEDs, I think I would of noticed a missing bulb, but to be honest, it is a stupid light, I mean who doesn't know they are missing their cap, that and the Lamp Outtage Module, all it does it cause problems, who is so blind that they cannot tell if a headlight it burnt out. I guess that turned into a rant, lol.

Just a little.

And, eh. I don't have a lamp out module, but I remember getting a check engine light for my rear license plate bulb. I scanned the car, scanner didn't give me any codes. Tried reading general OBDII and GEM. Nothing. Noticed the bulb was out, changed it, light gone.

Never heard of that before. But whatever.

Currently, my ABS light is driving me nuts. Has been on for 4 years. Bad front left hub..

Dude, it's weird, my front right hub was messed up, and after I changed it the ABS would not go on at every stop, and since I was compensation for it in the pedal, I had to relearn how to brake my truck, lol. It't really not that bad either, you may need a torch to get the bolts that hold the hub to the spindle out, I did, but other then that maybe a 40 minute Job if you are taking your time.
