Yes, you need a tune to properly calibrate the air flow coming through your intake. You have increase air flow without increasing fueling.

Also, you should avoid putting your MAF sensor on a bend. Your placement isnt horrible, but it could lead to turbulence in the MAF reading and poor driving, surging, or bucking.

Thank you for the information. Do the CGS and the K&N CAIs need a tune? I did not see any mention of a tune in their install instructions.

Unfortunately I could not tell you the answer that that. I work in the Ford tuning industry, and generally speaking, unlesss your air flow through the MAF readings remains exactly the same, then some tuning will be required. On the same token, if the MAF readings did remain the same, this would mean the air flow is exactly the same as stock, and thus there was no gains (or loss) from the intake.

My best advice is any quality intake that claims it gives more power or fuel efficiency, is increasing air flow to the engine, and thus requires re-calibration of the MAF. So good intake should always need a good tune with it on a MAF based vehicle.

It appears to me the fabrication that holds the MAF sensor is incorrectly positioned and also appears to not allow proper depth. That aside, most manufactured CAI's available for your motor do not require a tune. Your motor with it's adaptive CPU will accommodate "some" air flow increase quite nicely. In this day and age, why would you build your own ? There are very few better home built mouse traps to be had....Getting this thing built, tuned, and sorted out will not be worth the time and money. And what about a heat shield. Without one it will be a self defeating application. Sorry to discourage you, but you are not going to get any motor increase or save any money re inventing this wheel. And you could actually do harm to the motor if it's running lean !!!!!
