No one seems to have ANY pictures online of the keyless system in first gen Explorers. Anywhere. I just want to see it so I know what I'm looking for (I know it will be behind the panel in the back on the left side. What's it look like?!). So, if any of you have or can find or take any, I would be very grateful!

I found a connector hooked up to nothing in the back behind the panel in the left. It looks "female" and has looks like two prongs can go into it. Not sure if this is it, but I will try to get pics.

This is what I found. Any idea if this is it?

I have a Limited explorer which came with the factory keyless entry. I have the same unplugged connector. Mine is taped to itself dangling from the factory:

Here is what I'm pretty sure is the control box for the keyless entry. Note the connector on the left. It appears to be the same type of plug as the antenna plug for the back of the stereo:

Slightly further back showing the relative location of the box:

Thanks! Mine is an XLT, but it has the anti-theft light and that connector. Made me think maybe I should buy a remote. You and I are now the first people in history to produce pictures if this on a first gen, apparently.

I think that plug is to reprogram a new remote. You do the paper clip method...

It most definitely was the keyless entry programming connector. I jumped it with a paper clip to test. Thanks, guys!

If you want to re-program a keyless entry, or to add the second key, you turn the ignition switch to on or accessory, jumper the two contacts, then press one of the buttons on the transmitter. The door locks should cycle (on or off). Remove the jumper and turn the ignition off to verify. You also want to keep an eye on that area for leaks from the window above. Water coming in can cause the system to fail and/or cause the alarm module to malfunction.
