Hi there NY/NJ/CT guys. Looks like it's going to be lots of fun tomorrow.
Where I am, 12-24 inches of snow on Tuesday. Got the plow mounted on the 06, took the 07 to work.
Will post new pictures in a day or two.
As of now, calm and nice.

I all bearen, green grass but frozen due to -18C a few nights. I have seen more green grass than snow this year. I took my plow off the ATV as there had barely been enough to plow. Certainly nothing to keep me out of the road and driveway since we all drive 4x4's in the family. I read about this impending storm. We'll see, the weather man has been so wrong all winter (more like an extended fall here). Lawn tractor riding is more likely than a plow. LOL

Wish they were wrong again, but it does not look like this time. Strong winds and snow, and some of the trees may come down.

We have had winds a lot this winter, Hight gusts 80-90's Km/hr few branches gave it up but it seems the weak trees have already come down in last years winds.

We'll see if it even pans out with 20+ CM they are forecasting for tomorrow evening. LOL
I'll post a photo if its noteworthy otherwise a mere change of scenery for a few days until it melts again.

I started to take it seriously around noon today when I heard NYC Mayor De Blasio cancel school for tommorow. I'm only 9 miles from GW Bridge. NYC rarely closes schools for snow.

I am over Tappan Zee bridge going west on 87. It won't be pretty tomorrow.

Add a Wawa to the situation and it's always good.

So, how did it go? I saw that a friend in Connecticut got 21"...

The weather channel official number in my town was something like 13-14 ", but that's not what I saw outside. It was close to 18-20 mainly because it was so windy and basically white out. I went out throughout the day and plowed few times since I knew if I let it go too much, I'll be screwed. I got few calls from friends for help to plow their driveways. One of them, I gave up when I got stuck on top of the driveway by the mail box where the city plow piled that nice chunk of packed frozen snow. The explorer was not match for this storm. She got it plowed eventually by some landscaping truck in the range of 550 series and a ton of salt in the bed.
And let me tell you, plowing snow looks fun when you watch you tube videos. In reality, it's a PITA job. You can't see anything behind you in that blizzard, you need to watch for some kids running behind you just having fun and not thinking that you do not see them. And then on those last minute calls, you come to someone's house, and you do not know what's under the snow. Are you going to break your truck on something or you will rip out some nice belgium blocks that you don't know about ?
So my hat off to all the commercial plow drivers for doing this job.
Another side note; I have been doing this with this car for the past 9 or 10 years. I can see how much beating plow trucks are subject to, R to D, D to R, hundred times a day. I take it easy on mine since it's my commuter as well, but that original 6R tranny still pulls like a charm, 242k miles.

Now I got about 4 ft pile of snow on my driveway for the next few weeks.

I got maybe 6", hard to say because of winds and gust over the last few days and it was very fine snow come at -10C
I am not going to bother plowing my yard/driveway or road access. I took the plow off my ATV and this is not enough to keep any of my vehicles land locked. I took out the old 02 which was sitting for sale in the front by the main road. Cleared the snow, drove it up the access road into the drives. Check/topped the tire pressure since it leak somewhere a bit. Then out through the yard in the snow out to the main road.

I think low range is needed if plowing heavy stuff especially plow windrows. I use it in my ATV for the heavy work as well.

At some point, even the Low 4x4 is useless. When you get hang up on frame rails and running boards, and the blade of the plow acts as an anchor in the snow pile :) preventing you from backing out.
And as you can see, there is just sheet of ice under.

At no point should you be in that deep with a blade to move the snow that you hang up the frame. I been there too many times when I drove into a lot at a cottage I had every weekend. In as far as I could go and dig out in the morning if needed. Wheels that are spinning too much will settle down on the frame and axle. One heck of a job getting it out then.

Only way I can see that happening with your if you driving in with the blade up to drag and not plow the snow backwards. I see farmers out here clearing peoples driveways in my small town with must be 12-16ft blades. I expect they're 4x4 as well. LOL They can do that. You need ground clearance for sure in many situations.

...you are coming down the driveway, and the blade lifts up and gets wedged in the snow. It's actually higher than you could lift it with your controls, the rest of the car is still on the ground so I am not hang up on the frame. That plow blade is enough to keep you stuck. You need to clear the ice and snow from between the bumper and the blade. I am sure you know the pain :)

Spas took this photo last night. There are four Explorers buried in this shot.

Ouch....
Where was that ?

I work for a Trucking Company and I have a driver out that way. Hope you all stay safe out there.

My photobucket not working for some reason. Can't login, anyway I went for a sled ride earlier and I have more snow on my yard, driveway and lane than whats on the trail. Some drifts but most are quite small. 1st and only ride this year for me. Its been quite bad for snow and it didn't stay when it did come a few times.

PA oh wow and how the Explorers going to get out now. Need a tractor with a big blade to start moving it.
