So, I've got an 09 Explorer I've been playing with, and the first pic was camping stock. Last August I pulled off the running boards and switched from 30s on 18" chrome to 32s on 17" aluminum rims. BTW Destination XTs are great with both mud and winter, and decently priced too.
I noticed low-hanging fruit in the form of radiator and cooler supports (plastic!!) at the front just behind the bumper, So I'm back in the shop getting custom skid plate to protect it.
I've also been looking to add from winch points, and they might be coming to the side of the skid plate box because the front bumper itself is actually very crumply without any easily found attachment points, and this rig really isn't serious enough to warrant a full built bumper. It's still family hauler 90% of the time

That skid plate definitely looks like it will do the job:chug:

Hi

According to SAE towing practice
Towing eyes should be installed both parallel to chassis frame profile and towing force direction.

Towing eye welding direction should be normal (90 degree) to towing force direction.

Also towing eye should be close as possible to the chassis frame ends or centered between chassis frame profiles.

Or you will get low load capability.

Thanks, good to know. Unfortunately my budget says I can't make any more changes this year. Also, those hooks aren't for standard towing just for helping me pull myself out of a stupid situation if need be so hopefully never to be used and if used hopefully not pulling enough to be an issue. I definitely don't expect to use it to yank somebody else out of the mud or Any other major pulling.
