Supercharger install 9+lb boost! Full build

It looks like the new sensor has less mass around the element. This should make it read temp changes faster if the ECU can take advantage of a faster read time.
That's my theory as well

That was a fun one for me to diagnose. I ended up splicing the wrong wires out from the MAF. It ended up being wires 1 and 2, not 1 and 6. I think the change was in 2005. It was hard finding the correct info. Which I thought I had. I used FORScan and a multimeter to verify it.

I'm using the brass IAT version from moddbox, seems to be working fine so far.

I've been having heat soak issues
We will see if this helps

I bought some design engineering heat shield

I put some on the bottom of the lower intake
20210519_180456.jpg

I also made one for the engine Valley
Once I installed it it fits like a glove I put some tin foil ....dull side showing not shiny...On the back to take care of the adhesive
Both pointing down will take care of the ir heat hopefully

I have it apart why not give this a shot ?

The shinny side if the shield points to the heat

Every little bit helps. The IAT's are kind of fragile, but they usually last 10-20 years. I'm glad to see there are some better versions.

$40 little sensor but hopefully worth it

That's what Lasoda said To find a faster sensor

The air definitely does get hot now that I put this supercharger kit on. It was up to 155F at idle today. I'm curious to see how well this works out. You sure have a lot of patients dealing with all that silicone.

I also just recently emailed LaSota to get a tune for my truck. Sadly he wont do it because I'm in California. So looks like I am on my own for tuning.

I suggest his pro racer software
And one of his books or online tuning guides

Ok so
I installed the new sensor and heat shields
This new iat sensor is way faster I mean like at least 7-10 times faster
45 min drive
Outside temp today 90f
Coolant temp 170f
down the highway 130f
Town driving 135-142
Idling in parking lot for 10 min 155f
Rolling into boost 180 stays there ...as low as 13 degrees timing then goes up as the iat temperature goes down
3.5 lb boost meth kicks in progressively to 5.5 then sprays full
temps drop like a rock
9.8 lbs boost for 3 seconds 110f and dropping with
18-22 degrees of timing fluctuating a little
..not sure if that's good?
Not sure How low the temps will go but I'm sure it will go way lower by the way it was dropping
The intake stays cold after a meth spray till you get into mild boost again
As good as its going to get for now.... safe?

Jess says she feels more torque
What do y'all think?

That sounds very promising when the meth injection kicks in. Without it, the timing is pulled back a bunch.

Yea the temps spike just for a sec or two
The meth will spray during low boost in closed loop At low duty cycle
I know its basically a waste but I see the cooling factor plus it don't happen often ...perfect storm kinda thing...
Lasoda said in my last email spraying in closed loop may cause it to throw a code
He said it can happen but most likely won't to contact him if it does

I can't think of anything else to help iat s

Temps look like mine. I look forward to getting the water injection setup eventually. At least I know what to expect now.

What I and my Mustang buddies found was that water and/or meth injection gets within 5-10 degrees of ambient temps depending on humidity levels. Occasionally, we would see below ambient with low humidity. I bet you are near this and you IAT is leading the temp sensor reading by a certain amount of time. What does the IAT look like when you stab the accelerator and hit full boost from the start of a pull?

. What does the IAT look like when you stab the accelerator and hit full boost from the start of a pull?
It was about 135 -140 to start.... Takes about 3sec to get to 110 -115
...I seen it at 110 for a second but she let off
The temps are only high during regular driving But as soon as she gets into it it cools very rapidly
The temps are under control compared to before for sure

Change that sensor
It will allow the computer to react way faster
Worth it
You think your temps are high now add more boost
Meth won't help under mild boost say under where you set it
Set it to low then its running all the time its a waste
So you will see high temps just normal driving no matter what

Tip
Remove the upper plenum supercharger and intake as a unit

I may need a bigger filter this was new when we tuned it

How big is that, 6" or 9" etc? Hopefully it's not a lot smaller than the OEM air cleaner. I know there isn't a ton of room where the corner one sets. I bought a large Amsoil universal filter thinking I'd find a way to fit it in the corner and build an enclosure somehow. When I got it in hand I thought whoops, it's too big. You want it large, but it has to have plenty of air volume around it feeding the filter. The front surface or fender inner part, is easy to open up, but the filter and what to build around it, that's the tough part.

You might hunt the Volant air cleaner(9400 or something like that part #), if one ever does pop up again. It fills the corner fairly well, but it's made for a medium sized cone filter.

Its the biggest one I could find
Base is 6" and 6.5" tall 4 " inlet
To be kinda fair we just went through pollen season
The filter is cleanable but I just buy a new one every time $29
Ill find a bigger one

You can go a little bigger than that I'm sure. That sounds about the same as the one I have in my Volant air cleaner, except mine is made for the stock size MAF I believe.

Since you are using that common cone type filter, buy one from Amsoil that is just the size you want. Their EA filters are dry, fabric of some type, and they are cleanable for four years. Vacuum them out as you need to. They clean very well, equal or better to paper OEM types. I loved having my oil be transparent for months after changing it.

My extended oil interval story again; I used their Signature level($10) oil once just before my 5R55E died. The oil was beautiful(at 9k miles) until the filter fell off inside the air filter. I had been checking the oil every week, then every couple, then three, until it turned black between the last checks. I didn't have any more of that oil then, so I put a normal synthetic in it, which is still in it now(8-9 years later).
