I have the double DIN in dash CD/Cassette with the optional center console CD changer in the center arm rest. Trying to figure out the wire assignments on the connectors that plug into the back of the radio. I have found several pictures posted online, but non of the wires match mine exactly. I have included pix of the wire assignment on mine plus where those connectors plug into the back of the radio. Thanks

Ford has used the same colors for radio wiring for ages. Just do an internet search for "ford radio wire colors" or similar. It doesn't matter what model vehicle wiring diagram you find as long as it shows the colors.

I don’t believe this is true. There were 4 or 5 flavors of stereos available in the 2nd Gen, and the wiring wasn’t the same between them even a year apart.

Get the 2nd gen wiring diagrams linked below in my sig. They include at least 4 different radio options, possibly more including the separate Helms diagrams (separate download link in same forum post).

I could be wrong, but all the Ford radios I have done the colors have all been the same. The plugs and options were different but all the main wire colors were the same.

Have you done a second gen?

Could be that all the radios he has done were the base radio... IDK, I used to think I had the base radio in my '98 till I discovered the amp in the rear quarter panel (and no subwoofer). Guess not, was some kind of upgrade on the XLT package, otherwise just a single slot CD player head unit.

I have done my '99 with base radio and my '98 with controls on the steering wheel. In both cases the power, power antenna, keep alive, and speaker wire colors are the same.

Different stereo levels, even in the same year, have different colors. The constant power and key on power do appear to be the same, however.
